I've always thought and said that I've reinvented myself several times throughout my life, I've been a printer, a teacher, a school administrator, a small business owner, a student. I realized this morning, though, that none of these are a reinvention by my way of thinking. These are just changes in profession. I wonder if I really can reinvent myself. In lieu of a midlife crisis I think I'll try.
I could change my name. Dede Tioli, David Tioli. That would be a hassle and since we're well established here, I think it would be more trouble than it's worth. I could give myself a sobriquet though. Or a nickname like Sting...Tioli. Actually, a fair number of people in the are know me as Tioli. I've also been known as Doctor Dave. But I'm no healer. I am a caregiver, though.
How about:
Nurse Dede
Nurse David
Nurse Dede is currently a nursing student, and co-owner of Hawaii Consignment dba Sandra's Consignment.
Nurse Dede doesn't define himself by an occupation. Nurse is more than an occupation.
Nurse Dede is a non-drinker, non-smoker, non-drug abuser.
Nurse Dede is happy, satisfied with where he is in life, and the circumstances that life has brought.
Nurse Dede is physically healthy, exercises and works hard, and eats right.
Nurse Dede attends to, and loves his family and pets.
Nurse Dede loves living in Hawaii and on the Big Island.
Nurse Dede knows that most nurses are young females and is fine with that stereotype being applied to him in some way, even by himself.
Nurse Dede enjoys thinking about the good times but doesn't obsess or become morose over the hard times.
Nurse Dede subscribes generally to the idea of "live and let live" except when it involves religion or harmful conservatism/liberalism in any form, or anything else he doesn't like.
Nurse Dede trusts his intuition (sees clearly without eyes), in relationships, diagnostics, situations.

Nurse Dede - could you bring me a glass of water and then turn out the light?
My reinvention hasn't taken yet. Now thinking of something in crime family, or serial murder.
