The End of Democracy

An older white gentleman we know, (together with other white males), has said that as a result of Obama's election our democracy is over. What I thought he meant is that Obama is going to ruin the country, socialize it, or fascisize it, or something.

Today he sent a link Grassfire . When I went to it I saw that the organization is recruiting, via an online petition, a resistance movement. I realize now that what he means by the end of democracy, is that he and those that think like him will try to subvert the democratically elected president. He isn't advocating using the political process anymore, since that failed him, now instead of getting behind the new president, he will do all he can to spread dissent and fear.

We were perfectly willing to throw in with whomever won the election. That is what democracy is, after all. I'm sorry that some conservatives are so afraid of yet another white president that they're declaring war.

I've skimmed over a few similar emails that I consider mostly absurd, and I sincerely hope the ideas & plans conveyed will die a natural death of unnecessity (no, that's not a real word). But I think your friend, instead of feeling that democracy failed us, is convinced that our new president, with his gift of speech and persuasion, has fooled everyone and not revealed his true nature and agenda. Most strong men I know possess a great need to be prepared for foreseeable disaster, and are afraid disaster is what may happen!
